Boston’s Museum of Science is nearly 200 years old and averages over 1.5 million visitors each year. On Friday, March 8, this world-renowned center closed its doors to the public for 12 of Boston’s top debate teams to compete in our City Finals. They were joined by over 150 supporters, including teammates, competitors from other schools, coaches, family, and community advocates, as well as special guests Massachusetts State Senator Liz Miranda, City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune, and Chair of the Boston Public School Committee Jeri Robinson. This event concluded our local debate season and determined city champions in five different events. For participants, it was certainly the highlight of the season, and for their families and coaches who had worked so hard to give them this opportunity, it was a moment they will never forget.
The museum generously donated food for all attendees, as well as tickets to their newly released Omni Film, The Heart of New England. Students got to walk the museum with their fellow debaters before the event and learn about natural history and modern science, and then got to see some of the best debates of the year about wealth inequality happen on the museum’s stages. This is our second year in a row hosting City Finals at the Museum of Science, and we hope to make it an even bigger event with more attendees next year, so that everyone can get a chance to see these debaters share their ideas on a stage that reflects their hard work and passion for learning.
Congratulations to all those who competed in the event, but especially the winning teams, which are as follows:
