Celebrating volunteers after the first half of the tournament season!
As we transition the the second half of the 2023-2024 debate season, the BDL family would love to reflect on the volunteers and community partners that make the debate season possible.
A Tribute to Tournaments
Throughout this academic year, a remarkable 373 individuals from the Boston community have graciously volunteered their time! These volunteers, serving as judges, have shared valuable insights, guidance, and feedback with debaters, focusing on the season’s theme of wealth inequality across five BDL tournaments. To break it down numerically, this equates to more than 902 debate rounds and approximately 2006 hours of thought-provoking discourse, impacting the lives of over 600 debaters.
Among these tournaments, three were dedicated to specific career-related affinities, involving legal, STEM, and Black & Latinx professional organizations in the Boston Area. These events showcased the experiences and career journeys of experts within those fields.
Notably, the Black & Latinx Professionals Affinity Tournament hosted BDL’s third-ever networking session! This unique session featured a lively “mingle bingo” where volunteers and debaters interacted, collaborated on Shark Tank-inspired pitches addressing the representation disparity of Black & Latinx employees in the corporate sector, and posed relevant questions to the attending professionals.
