Despite the second snow storm in as many weeks, and the fact that many of our debaters had just returned from winter break, the Suffolk Univerity Debate Tournament showcased the dedication of BPS students to debate once more. Over 135 debaters participated at Suffolk and there was some fantastically competitive debate.
Nicolas Cathcart from Brighton absolutely took the tournament by storm. Cathcart ended up winning the Varsity division of the tournament on a 3-0 decision over Long Dang & Osaruese Odeh from Dorchester despite the fact he was debating as a maverick! Gena White from New Mission High School was top speaker. Meanwhile, in the Junior Varsity division Jason Wong & Yue Chen from Josiah Quincy defeated Heaven Reda and Samuel Landais from Urban Science Academy. Lucibele Delgado from Excel claimed the JV top speaker award. In the Novice division, Boston Latin Academy asserted their dominance by closing out the final round. Blondine St. Jusme & David Lizano advanced over Louis Barias & Hassan Sakhta in that final round due to their performance in earlier rounds as the Boston Debate League doesn’t allow inter-team debates. Jeffrey Reid from English was the top speaker in the Novice division. Full results can be found HERE.
