This past weekend was the inaugural tournament of the Greater Boston Debate League, a league where students from Boston Public Schools can compete and interact with students from the surrounding suburbs. Held in Manchester-by-the-Sea, ten teams from six schools had a fantastic time learning from and about each other as well as competing to determine who the best debaters were. And the winners, for this weekend at least, were the students from the Boston Public Schools. Justin Mei from Josiah Quincy was named the tournament champion as well as the top individual speaker, with Maria Rodriguez and Logan Young of East Boston High School finishing third, and from Brighton High School, Mohamed Musa and Anthony Pinnock finishing fifth and Nicolas Cathcart & Alana Hans-Bodden finishing sixth. The next tournament will be held in Weston on December 11th, and already additional schools from the surrounding areas are asking to be invited.
