The BDL Celebrates its First Tournament of the 2010-2011 Season

The BDL started the 2010-2011 season out with a bang. Over 185 students competed at our first tournaments- thats right- we said tournaments. The BDL has gotten so big we have too many students debating at one time to fit in one school. Last year our largest tournament had 111 students, and that year saw the BDL double student participation from there year before.

At our East Boston High School site, New Mission took home the tournament championship, with East Boston finishing a close second and taking home the coveted Spirit Award- given to the team with the strongest student participation. The New Mission team of Gena White and Darien Amado won the varsity division, where Gena was also named the top varsity speaker. The East Boston team of Maria Rodriguez and Logan Young finished second. In the novice Division, the New Mission team of Mariama Sano and Micah Mignott were the winners. Special Congratulations go to Urban Science Academy who had three of the eight teams in quarterfinals, as well as the top speaker- Vanessa Bertrand.
