Grad Classes

The Boston Debate League (BDL) is offering a one-week Debate Across the Curriculum (DAC) graduate class this summer (2011) to train middle and high school teachers in all subject areas to use debate activities to teach their content and curriculum in an engaging and academically rigorous fashion.

Teachers will:

  • Learn the foundation of DAC, why it works, what academic skills it develops, and how it develops those skills.
  • Learn how to meaningfully engage thirty or more students through debate activities that can last anywhere from ten minutes to more than a week. A substantial amount of time will be spent on many of the shorter activities that can be used daily and will help scaffold the debate skills students need to participate in full debates.
  • Be given a substantial amount of time to work collaboratively with teachers who teach their same subject to develop curriculum and lesson plans that will work for their curriculum. At the end of the week, teachers will leave with many lessons that they can use on day one of the school year.
  • Access to our intranet, a space where teachers can share videos and lesson plans with each other.
